How Do We Take Back Our Data?

It is by now an accepted fact that data is value, data is infrastructure, data is oil, data is us… however, in reality, we are losing grip on our very own data.

We need a “cloud” (a corporation’s data centre) just to dim our lights, and we can hardly make an appointment without also informing the big surveillance networks. “Smart” everythings generate data in our homes, cars, cities, countries – and we are less and less capable of working with these data streams.

This workshop will focus on realistic scenarios of taking back our data. Focusing on so-called “things” rather than “social” media streams. We will talk about concrete available technology, about the role of the public, private and informal sector, and a concrete initiative in IoT networks, The Things Network.
