What is Techfestival?

  • Techfestival is a three-day festival unfolding in the centre of Copenhagen. Via exciting talks, deep-dive workshops, several co-creative events, as well as dinners and meetups, Techfestival is making the conversation on tech progress participatory, open and engaging. 

Who is Techfestival for?

  • Techfestival is open to people of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities. It is a festival aimed at all those who want to explore, debate and celebrate a human-centric approach to technology with wide-open eyes, fierce curiosity and joyful enthusiasm.

When is Techfestival?

  • Techfestival is taking place on September 5-7, 2019.

Where is it taking place?

  • Kødbyen, Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District in Vesterbro.

How can I join?

  • By getting your wristband. You can also join the festival as part of our volunteer crew.

What other ways can I participate in the festival?

  • There are many ways to be part of Techfestival, including volunteering or helping us curate activities. Have a look at our Participate page for more info.

Practical

How do I get to Techfestival?

  • All activities take place in and around the Meatpacking District in Vesterbro. It is located five minutes walk from Copenhagen Central Station (Hovedbanegården), and you will find everything within walking distance. For more travel info, check out rejseplanen.dk.

Where is the main stage located?

  • The main stage called Circle Stage is located in the centre of the Meatpacking District, where you can enjoy talks, music, films and exhibitions.

How do I get to and from the different venues?

  • All the venues are located within the Meatpacking District or just outside of it, and always within walking distance. Check out the full map at the bottom of the page.

How much is a ticket for public transport in Copenhagen?

  • An average bus, S-train or metro ticket costs 24 DKK/3.21 EUR/3.59 USD for an adult, and 12 DKK/1.61 EUR/1.79 USD for a child. A standard ticket allows you to travel freely between two zones within Copenhagen for up to 1 hour. You can download the DOT app for iPhone or Android for tickets purchases and journey planning.

Can I bring my kids?

  • Yes, by all means! Techfestival is for humans of all ages.

Will there be food and drinks at the festival area?

  • There are a variety of food and drinks options within the festival itself. Furthermore, your wristband entitles you to a discount at a number of great restaurants and cafés within the Meatpacking District. Here is a list of discounts:

Where can I stay?

  • Different options are available for your stay in Copenhagen. In collaboration with Human Hotel, our home-sharing accommodation partner, we are offering the Human Hotel ticket to out of town guests. This includes staying with a private host for three nights (5-8 September) at a set rate of 75€ per night, entry to the festival and a lasting shared connection.

Will there be wheelchair access?

  • The main festival area is wheelchair-friendly, and there is a specially designed toilet for wheelchair-users near the Human Stage. Outside of the festival area, wheelchair access varies depending on the venue in question. Please check the specific venue that you are planning to visit or contact us, and we will figure it out for you.

Does Techfestival serve any meals during the day?

  • This year, we serve our guests 3 meals daily. All meals are served in front of Circle Stage.

Breakfast:  08-10 AM
Lunch 12-13 PM
Dinner: From 18

What’s on the menu during Techfestival?

Every day breakfast:

  • Rolls (rundstykker) 10 DKK

Thursday lunch:

  • Baked beetroots served with spicy hummus and a salad of lentils, arugula and tarragon. 95 DKK

Thursday dinner:

  • Thai bowl with rice, tofu, pepper, beans, red curry and basil. 85 DKK

Friday lunch:

  • Brioche with pickled cabbage, pickles and marinated portobello mushroom. Served with a salad of cucumber, tomato and mustard mayo. 85 DKK

Friday dinner:

  • Miso and kimchi ramen with egg noodles, cabbage, pepper, bean sprouts, coriander, hoisin glaced tofu and egg. 85 DKK

Saturday lunch:

  • ‘California Bowl’ with teriyaki tofu, quinoa, spicy chickpeas, edamame, kimchi bean sprouts, cherry tomatoes, mixed cabbage, sprouts, herbs and sesame miso dressing. 85 DKK
  • On the side: Crispy vegetable spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. 35 DKK

Saturday dinner:

  • ‘Ay Ay coco’ jambalaya of marinated tempeh, vegetables, juicy bell peppers and a cajun-creole sofrito with long grain rice and crispy coconut. Served with cornbread. 85 DKK
  • On the side: Coconut and Apricot Cake. 35 DKK

 

Tickets / Wristbands

How much is a ticket?

  • Tickets are 40€ per person. A ticket is exchangeable for a wristband, which gives you access to all the events and activities. N.B. Remember to sign up for sessions and summits.

Where can I buy my ticket?

  • Tickets are available on our website and can be either downloaded to your phone or printed.

Where an how do I get my wristband?

  • You can pick up your wristband at our 2 check-ins/Info booths the main festival area at Flæsketorvet 28, Copenhagen by showing your ticket. Remember to have your ticket ready on your mobile phone or as a printed ticket. Our check-in is open:

Wednesday 4th September: 16:00 – 20:00

Thursday 5th September: 08:00 – 22:00

Friday 6th September: 08:00 – 22:00

Saturday 7th September: 08:00 – 22:00

What is included with my ticket?

  • With your ticket, you get access to all of Techfestival’s events, activities and parties. However, summits and sessions have limited availability, so don’t forget to sign up for a spot via our website.

When can I sign up for sessions and summits?

  • All the sessions and summits are now open for sign-ups as long as seats are available. 

Does the wristband give access to any discounts?

  • Yes, it does! In the Meatpacking District, there are many ways to quench your thirst and get something in your stomach. By showing your wristband, you can get a nice discount these places:

Sessions

What is a Session?

  • Sessions are Techfestival’s co-created events, hosted and curated by organisers from a multitude of diverse tech communities around the world. Sessions last 2 hours and are for everyone with a curious mind. However, venue capacities are limited, so make sure to sign up to register and arrive in good time to secure your spot.

Who can attend Sessions?

  • Everyone with a festival wristband can attend the sessions. However, venue capacities are limited, so make sure to sign up beforehand and arrive in good time to secure your spot.

How can I know if it is a Session?

  • All our different activities are labelled accordingly in the programme under ‘Event type’. You can scroll down the list or customise the display setting under ‘Event type’. Check out all sessions here.

Where can I sign up for Sessions?

  • Check out our programme and click the sign-up link in the right-side panel for the session you wish to attend, or click on the subpage and find the “sign up”-button at the top left. Venue capacities for sessions are limited, so please be sure to arrive in time beforehand in order to secure your spot.

Can I sign up for more than one session?

  • Yes, you can sign up to as many as you want. 

 

Summits

What is a summit?

  • Summits are all-day, interactive gatherings around a specific topic, aimed at deep-dive explorations into tech. They are designed and facilitated by international experts, who will do their best to ensure that you leave with new insights and meaningful experience. You can find the time schedule for each summit via our programme. Please note that spots for summits are limited.

Who can attend summits?

  • We welcome anyone with a wristband to apply for summits. However, in order to curate the best experience and secure a diverse group of participants, we take the liberty to screen through applicants. Therefore, we will send you a confirmation mail if you’ve secured a seat.

How can I know if it is a summit?

  • All our different activities are labelled accordingly in the programme under ‘Event type’. You can scroll down the list or customise the display setting under ‘Event type’. Check out all the summits here.

Where can I sign up for a summit?

  • Check out our programme and find the summits you wish to attend. Click “Sign up” and fill out the application form. 

Can I sign up for more than one summit?

  • Yes, you can sign up to as many as you want. Please note that you need a confirmation for each summit, you sign up to.

 

Talks, Installations and other

What other activities can I attend during Techfestival?

  • Our activities programme also includes a range of talks, creative installations and social events in and around the Meatpacking District. You can find all the information in our programme.

What is the Copenhagen Letter?

  • During the first Techfestival, a group of 150 expert practitioners came together to discuss responsibility in technology development. The result is the co-authored Copenhagen Letter, which was sent out to everyone who shapes technology today. You can read & sign the Copenhagen Letter here.

What is the Copenhagen Catalog?

  • At Techfestival 2018, we re-assembled our ‘150’ think tank to continue the process that was left off at the Copenhagen Letter. After convening, discussing and creating for 48 hours, the Copenhagen Catalog, a set of 150 principles for a new direction in tech, was born.
